Is Getting On The Housing Ladder On Your New Year’s Resolution List?

Gary Oxborough is Practice Principal at Barlow Irvin Financial Services. This month he explains how we help first time buyers, putting you first at all times to make the process as stress free as possible.

It is that time of the year when we all take stock of our lives and make some New Year’s resolutions. If this year you are looking beyond the usual healthy eating or getting fitter goal, that invariably dwindles away in a few weeks, and taking the bigger step to get on the property ladder, then let’s see if I can help make your resolution a reality.

The first thing you need to think about is how much you can spend on a property and then start looking around to see what sort of property you can get for that figure. Of course, there are a couple of things we need to look at to see how much you can spend, mainly the amount of deposit you will have available and how much you can borrow on a mortgage. I always advise any first-time buyer to speak to a professional mortgage advisor as early as possible in their journey onto the property ladder. At Barlow Irvin, we are more than happy to speak to you right at the beginning to help guide you, even if the actual purchase is months away (or even further in some cases). We will look at your circumstances, work out how much you can borrow and what that will cost, then guide you as to the best way to move forward. Quite often, that is to take some extra time to save a bigger deposit or maybe to pay down some existing debt. The most important thing is that you, our client, knows where you are, where you need to get to and how we can work together to get you there.

Once you are ready to move on and buy the property, my team will handle all the mortgage process for you and will also manage the relationships with the estate agents, solicitors, and anyone else involved in the process. One of the main advantages of using a mortgage advisor, such as ourselves, is that we work for you, not the mortgage lender or estate agents, so you are our number one priority at all times. As you have never been through this process before, our experience and expertise will make the whole buying process as smooth and stress free as possible.

Buying your first home can be daunting.  Let’s be honest you have probably never spent tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of pounds on anything else before. Our aim is to make it an exciting time, which it should be, with as little stress as possible.

As a mortgage is secured against your home or property, it could be repossessed if you do not keep up mortgage repayments.
