Barlow Irvin’s Protection Specialist, Jade Winstanley is marking breast cancer awareness month with some top tips to bear in mind and to remind you that she’s always here to advise on all aspects of critical illness cover.
In 2020 there were 2.26 million women diagnosed with breast cancer and according to Breast Cancer UK, 30% of breast cancer cases are preventable:*
Reduce the amount of alcohol you drink
Get more exercise
Improve your diet
Reduce your exposure to chemicals that may be harmful
Reduce use of HRT and consider alternatives to oral contraception
With survival getting stronger and stronger, according to research from Breast Cancer UK in England based on women diagnosis, between 2002 and 2017 80.4% are predicted to survive 10 years or more.
In 2019 there were 25,100 men diagnosed with breast cancer and 12,100 deaths globally. It is more Important than ever to get checked regularly and never feel like you’re wasting anyone’s time. The saying ‘it’s better to be safe than sorry’ always comes to mind when talking about health.
One of the questions I ask on every application is about family history; DO YOU HAVE A FAMILY HISTORY OF BREAST CANCER? If this is the case, it is more important than ever to take your time choosing the right critical illness cover. Some providers will NOT INCLUDE breast cancer in their policies therefore, you will not receive a lump sum. It is important to know what illness are included in your cover. Working with a broker is always recommended in these cases, they can find out which provider in best suitable for you, rather than ask for a list of conditions from every insurance provider.
As a client of our please remember we DO NOT charge for reviews so always happy to help.
